Dr. Romo is a motivating teacher educator and group facilitator with 20+ years experience helping individuals and organizations maximize their creativity and collaboration. He applies K-16 experience with excellent listening and creative skills to transformative teaching and coaching. He is known for transformative speaking, advancing multicultural competency, equity and inclusivity. His scholarship has focused on multicultural identities in teaching and learning in the San Diego-Tijuana geo-political border region, as well as how institutional and interpersonal trauma impacts mental, physical and behavioral health. He is the lead author of Toward Cultural Democracy: The Journey from Knowledge to Action in Diverse Classrooms and Reclaiming Democracy: Multicultural Educators’ Journeys toward Transformative Teaching, as well as various articles on educational equity and inclusion.  Dr. Romo specializes in Understanding the Hidden Dynamics of Organizations, Integrative Change, Trauma Informed Care, Healing and Spirituality, and Male Identity.


Workshops

DIVERSITY, INCLUSION AND EXCELLENCE

  • 2 hour workshop that engages participants staff and their supervisors in activities and dialogues about community, support and accountability in an increasingly diverse society. Participants will consider how their individual and organizational cultures influence student experiences of inclusion or exclusion. This interactive workshop includes practical exercises to help staff in their various roles to recognize and respond to micro-aggressions. 

FACULTY DIALOGUES TOWARDS MULTICULTURAL TEACHING AND LEARNING: FROM KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION

  • 2 hour workshop that engages faculty and administrators in dialogue about identity and inclusion. Participants will consider how their individual and organizational cultures are reflected in expressions of multicultural competence. This interactive workshop will help faculty explore and apply guidelines for culturally responsive teaching and learning.

UNBLOCKING YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

  • 3 hour workshop that explores foundational questions of purpose in the context of common issues mid-career faculty face. Participants will consider how various background experiences have become part of the cloud that blocks the progress towards their deepest desires. This interactive workshop will help participants to clarify their genius map steps to move them forward. 

COMMUNITIES OF HEALING

  • 2 hour workshop that helps participants create a trauma-informed campus. Participants will understand the impact of trauma on students in terms of behavior, relationships, and academic performance. They will learn how adverse child experiences impact faculty, staff and students and will understand trauma informed guidelines; as well as consider proactive, practical steps to reduce and respond to re-traumatization.
